Frances Claiborne Andrews, the third of four children, was born to the late Jonathan H. Claiborne, Sr., and Rosalie Davis Claiborne on June 20, 1923 in Richmond, Virginia.

She confessed Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Moore Street Baptist Church.

After graduating from Armstrong High School, Frances received a B.S. Degree in Science from Virginia Union University in 1944. She earned a Master's in Science from Virginia State University in 1961.

Frances taught in Blackstone, VA from 1944 to 1945 and in Emporia, VA from 1945 to 1948. In Richmond she taught Biology, Mathematics, and English at Benjamin A. Graves Middle School and taught Biology, Earth Science, Mathematics and Reading at George Wythe High School from whence she retired in 1989. She remained in the classroom as a substitute teacher for another 17 years.

She married James Russell Andrews in 1947. They became the parents of Lillian Rosalie and James, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister, (18759358) Rosalie Claiborne Adams.

Frances was a member of Zeta Phi Beta, Inc. Sorority, Eastern Star, Chapter # 4 O.E.S. P.H.A., and the American Association of University Women. She was also a lifetime member of Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church. Her many church affiliations include; President of the Sisterhood, Member of the Executive Committee, President of the Maude Harris Sunday School Class, Superintendent of the Church School, Girl Scout Leader, Member of the Moore Street Senior Citizens and a Member of the Memorial Choir.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Lillian A. Callins and her husband Aldrich G. of Birmingham, AL; her son, James R. Andrews, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Long Beach, CA; four granddaughters, three grandsons, and six great-grandchildren, her beloved brother, Marion Russell Claiborne and his wife, Joyce of Willingboro, NJ. She will also be greatly missed by a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and special dear loving friends and neighbors. She will be missed by all the lives she has touched, both professionally and personally.

Remains rested at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmont Avenue, where Zeta Phi Beta Inc. Sorority conducted a burial service at 6pm, Thursday, September 1, 2011, followed by family visitation from 7pm to 8pm. Funeral services were held, at Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1408 West Leigh Street, Friday, September 2, 2011, at 11am, the Rev. Dr. Alonza L. Lawrence officiating, with burial following at Roselawn Memory Gardens, Glen Allen. The remains rested in church one hour prior to service.
