EMAGENE FOSTER CLAUDIUS


Emagene Foster Claudius, 92, Kansas City, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Kansas City Hospice House, a mere 4 days following her 92nd birthday. In memoriam, a graveside service will be held at 10:30am, Monday, April 2, at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Kansas City Hospice House or The University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Emagene Martin Foster was born March 24, 1920, in Falls City, NE, to Stella Elisabeth Knickerbocker and Clare Martin Foster. She received a Bachelor's degree in Music, Voice, from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music in 1942. Emagene performed at various venues in the Kansas City area and in Falls City over the next several years. She completed certification requirements for teaching in the Missouri public school system and was a substitute teacher in the Kansas City School district for many years. Following teaching, Emagene volunteered at the Kansas City Public Library given her interests in literature and lifelong love of reading. She was later employed by the Library's Main Branch and completed 15 years of dedicated service to the Library in this role. Emagene was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, the Rev. Gerald L. Claudius, and her brother, Benjamin Lewis Foster. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Joel and Pamela Claudius, Lee's Summit, MO, Bruce and Judy Claudius, Kansas City, MO, Elisabeth Ross, Kansas City, MO, John and Rhonda Claudius, Draper, UT; seven loving grandchildren, Kellie and Brian Narron, Kansas City, MO, Ian Claudius, Austin, TX, Stella Ross, Washington, DC, Emma Claudius, Kansas City, MO, Madeline Ross, San Diego, CA, Rachel Claudius, Draper, UT, and Grace Claudius, Draper, UT; two loving great- grandchildren, Charlotte Narron and Grady Narron. Emagene was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend, and will be dearly missed on earth by all those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace until we meet again.
