David Clayton was a devoted and loving husband to Estelle Clayton for 69 years. They had one daughter, Evelyn Freeman, who was his greatest joy. He was a wonderful grandfather to Mandy Gonzales and Emily Foerster. Once the girls married, their spouses, Paul Gonzales and Joseph Foerster, became his grandsons as well. He loved nothing more than being a great grandfather to David and Gina Gonzales and Jake and Rachel Foerster. He is also survived by siblings Rev. Dr. Harold Clayton and wife Mary Ellen, Ronnie Clayton and wife Barbara, and Thelma Statum. Beulah Brittain was his remaining aunt whom he called Aunt Baby. David leaves numerous nieces and nephews, as well as Claire Whitehead who he loved like a daughter. He was preceded in death by his father Presley "Pete" Clayton, mother Dorothy Clayton, and sister Annette Frazier.

David was raised in Lindale Assembly of God Church, and then later became a member of Lindale Baptist Church where he served as an Ordained Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and many other positions of leadership for over 20 years. He is currently a proud member of Spring Baptist Church. David aided his community as a Lions Club member, volunteer of the neighborhood watch patrol, and served in the Panda Program. David was a Brick Mason in the union for over 40 years where he was nationally recognized. His beautiful work can be seen across Houston and surrounding areas. David was a loyal friend, passionate woodworker, golfer, and loved a good puzzle with family!

David was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was known as the most honest, hard-working man, with an unrelenting dedication to family and God. Rejoice that he is with Jesus! He secured his ticket to heaven many years ago. His spiritual life touched our family and many others through the years.

Serving as pallbearers are David Gonzales, Paul Gonzales, Joseph Foerster, Robbie Clayton, David Whitehead, David Laningham, Robert Cousineau, and Alan Whitehead.
