On the 17th April 1917, carrying 639 British wounded soldiers from Le Havre to Southampton, DONEGAL was torpedoed without warning and sunk by German submarine UC-21, 19 miles South from Dean Light Vessel.
29 of the British wounded soldiers and 11 crew went down with the DONEGAL"
