Minister and politician. He was best known asan Evangelical Baptist leader who was instrumental in the advancement of popular education and supported the Dock Strike of 1890. He was President of the World Federation of Brotherhoods in 1919 to 1920 and was awarded the Order of the Companians of Honour, as a reward for outstanding achievements in politics and religion.
