NOTE:

Ms Cobb's sister, Elizabeth Sue Cobb was an Alabama State Trooper who was shot and killed by her boyfriend/fiance', also an Alabama State Trooper, Joe Cecil Duncan, Jr. He was beneficiary on her $350,000 life insurance policy.

On 11 Oct 1987, Elizabeth Cobb, became the first female trooper killed in the line of duty in the United States. The 31 year old officer was parked at a rural church near Selma, taking a break from her patrol work, snacking on potato chips and sour cream dip when she was shot three times in the head at close range.

Trooper Cobb was an Air Force veteran and had served with the Alabama Department of Public Safety for six years.

Joe Cecil Duncan, Jr was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death, but he won a new trial on appeal. In 1995, the jury was struggling to reach a verdict, the prosecution and defense agreed to let Duncan plead guilty to murder rather than capital murder and receive a 25 year sentence.

He was released from prison in 2012.
