Almina Hill, who was born in Coffins Grove, Delaware County, Iowa, was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Hill and Lydia Tripp. Almina married William Cocking in Manchester, Delaware County, on December 26, 1888. William, son of Joseph Cocking and Susannah Osgerby, had emigrated from England to the United States and settled in Iowa earlier in the same year.

Almina and William had ten children:

1) Arthur B. Cocking (1889-1957), who married Nellie Mae Cox;
2) Roy J. Cocking (1892-1959), who married Agnes Belle Clendenen;
