Berneice Ann Carpenter, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Manchester died at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.

She was born in Manchester on April 9, 1918, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Dodge) Cocking. She was raised and educated in the area and graduated from Oneida High School.

Berneice was united in marriage to Clair G. Carpenter on January 1, 1938, in rural Manchester. Together they farmed north of Earlville until they retired in 1979 and moved to Manchester. Clair died on February 6, 2005, and shortly after Berneice lived at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include two daughters, Karon (Willis) Dettmann of Hiawatha and Delores (Don) Marsh of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Berneice was preceded in death by her husband, Clair Carpenter; her son, Richard; her parents; one sister, Fern Dighton; and one brother, Glen Cocking.
