On July 10, 2012, Rachel Joan Cody Bridges Allen of Marie went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.

Born September 15, 1939 in Hinton she was the daughter of the late James Earl and Georgia Jane Bishop Cody.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a homemaker and lifelong resident of Summers County.

Rachel loved life and spending time with her family as well as extending her love to help her family and friends. Her boys and grandchildren were the apple of her eye and she loved them more than life itself.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy William Allen; four brothers, Richard, Sebert, Jimmie and Eddie Cody; an infant brother, Georgie and a grandson, Ronnie Cales.

Those left to cherish her memory include her long time companion, Willard Patterson; two sons, Greg Bridges and wife Connie of Forest Hill and Randy Bridges and wife Darlene of Red Sulphur; two grandsons, Scottie Bridges of Marie and Tyler Bridges of Red Sulphur; six granddaughters, Brandy Bridges Ward and fiancé Robert Williams of Sandstone, Jackie Hughes and husband Jeremy of Coal City, Kayla Bausersman and husband Jeff of Marie, Jordan Ward and husband Brandon of Hinton, Brittany Adkins of Princeton and Rachel Bridges of Forest Hill; six great grandchildren, Emilee and Jessica Ward of Sandstone, Jeremy Jr. and Jalynn Hughes of Coal City, Kinslee Bauserman of Marie and Talia Ward of Hinton and two brothers, Donald Cody of Marie and Ervin T. Cody and wife Rose of Peterstown. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor J.C. Finley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Wayside Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral parlors. Family will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of Southern WV and a special thank you to Orville, Tina, and Greg Hughes and Tina Cales for all of their love, care and support given to the family.
