Verna Dumont Adams, 83, of Sigourney, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

She was born June 7, 1925, to Fred and Gertrude Beckly Colbert. She attended rural schools in Keokuk County and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1941. On April 3, 1943, she married Elmer Dumont at St. Elizabeth Church in Harper. They farmed north of Ollie until he died in 1975. She then married Amos Adams at St. Mary Church in Sigourney on Dec. 29, 1978. They lived in Sigourney until he died in 1993.

She was a volunteer at Manor House and for Hospice for 20 years. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son, Danny; a grandson, Doug Sieren; a sister Phyllis Hicklin; three brothers Dale, Don and Jim Colbert; and a special friend, Raymond Herman.

She is survived by her children Sherry Sieren of Washington, Peggy and her husband Bill Winn of Ollie, David Dumont of Wellman, Pat and her husband Roy Carver of Muscatine, John and his wife Carla Dumont of Ollie, Kathy Dumont and Scott Cochran of Riverside; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney with burial at St Elizabeth Cemetery, Harper.
