Deceased Name: Mrs. Alice M.G. Colgate Weems

Mrs. Alice M.G. Colgate Weems Clinton, SC - Mrs. Alice M.G. Colgate Weems, passed away on November 24, 2010 at the age of 92 at The Presbyterian Home in Clinton, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Margart Cuthbert of Edinburgh, Scotland. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Gibb, who died in August 1939 in the service of the King of Great Britain. In August 1940, she came to the U.S., with a baby, Joyce, for the duration of the war and eventually married William B. Colgate and had a son, William Alexander in 1944. They lived in New York until Mr. Colgate retired from E.R. Squibb & Sons at which time they moved to Aiken, S.C. Mr. Colgate died in1994. In 1995 she and John W. Weems were wed and they lived in Aiken for seventeen years until his death in 2003. She was a widow with three sons David, Micheal, and Danforth. She moved to Clinton in 2007 where she resided until her death. She is survived by a step-daughter, Mary Colgate Chucka and husband, Donald of Franklin Lakes, NJ,; a daughter, Joyce Gibb Coates and husband, Robert of Brevard, N.C., and a son William Alexander Colgate of Concord, NH. She was very active in her church and was an Elder and Treasurer at North Presbyterian Church in N.Y. She held several offices at her church in Aiken, and was a member of the choir, the Woman's Circle and the "Tuesday Club". She volunteered with "Meals on Wheels" and was a member of both Garden clubs in NY and Aiken. Travel was one of her favorite activities and she and M. Colgate traveled throughout the U.S, Europe, and both the near and middle east. She has seven grandchildren, Douglas Chucka, and Virginia Chucka of Franklin Lakes, NJ, Gary Chucka of Haskaell, NJ, Deborah Parks of Bar Mills ME, Susan Sunyar of Sound Beach, NY, Barbara Horstmanshof of Ridge, NY, Robert Coates Jr. of Fiskdell Ma, and E. Ross Colgate and Eric Colgate of Burlington, VT. She also has 11 great grandchildren. A celebration of life service will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken, S.C. at a future date.
