MRS COLGATE is DEAD at 70

Mother of Head of Big Soap Corporation

New York, Oct. 5

Mrs. Sidney M. Colgate 70, active welfare worker and mother of S. Bayard Colgate, chairman of the board of the Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company, died today of a cerebral hemorrhage.
A native of Hoboken, N.J. she was the widow of the late Sidney Morse Colgate brothers who formerly controlled Colgate & Co. Before his death, they lived at Seven Oaks, the Colgate ancestral home in Orange, N.J.

Mrs Colgate two years ago wrote, "Off the Straight and Narrow" a book describing her lifetime of welfare work for parental schools, reformatories and prisons. She was one of the original directors of the Boys Brotherhood Republic, a club created to teach boys self government.

Besides her son, she is survived by tow daughters, Mrs. Howard C. Taylor, Jr., of New York and Southport, Ct., and Mrs. Edward P.F. Egan of Rye, N.Y.; a sister, Miss Isabel Green Dod of Boston, and a brother Albert Bayard Dod of Mt. Holley, Va.
