Funeral services for Aaron R. "Doodles" Coll will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the Dougherty Baptist Church with the Rev. Williard McCartney Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Dougherty Cemetery.


Aaron was born on Dec. 5, 1932, in Dougherty, Okla., to Robert and Ina (Samples) Coll. He passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009, in Ardmore at the age of 76. Aaron was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lee Baugh and Billie Ruth Walls; and two brothers, Dale and Edward Coll.


After graduating from Dougherty High School in 1951, Aaron joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He returned home from the war and joined the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local # 627, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. Aaron was a true friend to all. He enjoyed helping others and did so on a daily basis. He was truly the type of friend who would give you the shirt off his back. Although Aaron was ruff and tuff on the outside, on the inside was a big heart that loved everyone. He was very proud to call Dougherty his home and its people his friends. Aaron was a retired member of the Dougherty Fire Department, as well as a member of the Dougherty Baptist Church.


Aaron is survived by one daughter, Shelly Hicks, and one granddaughter, Kendra Hicks, both of Davis; one sister-in-law, Marie Coll of Dougherty; several nieces and nephews and a host of good friends.


Serving as Pallbearers will be Shane Hale, Rhett Hale, Bobby Keith Garrett, Billy Prater, Sandy McCartney and Gary Parsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mack Hale, Glenn Hale and Ralph Gibson.


Services are "entrusted to" Hale's Funeral Home, Davis, Okla.
