Marie Sylvia Cheatum passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Hospice Care Center. She was 87 years old.
M. Sylvia was born October 19, 1923 in Grand Junction, Colorado, to James W. and F. Connor Collyer. She graduated from Grand Junction High School and Ross Business College. She worked for the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C. during the 1940's.
M. Sylvia married Darrel Cheatum, of Delta, Colorado, whom she met at Ross Business College. They lived in Norfolk, Virginia while Darrel served in the U.S. Navy. Later, they returned to Colorado where they purchased Delta Motor Parts, which they operated for many years.
M. Sylvia helped in the establishment of the Sunshine School of Delta, Colorado, and served on the board of Community Options, a program that provides services and support to people with developmental disabilities. She was also a member of the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Counsel in Denver, Colorado.
M. Sylvia was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Delta, Colorado, where she was very active for many years.
She is survived by her son, Gordon Cheatum, of Orlando, Florida; her daughters, Linda Frasier, of Grand Junction, and Deanna Cheatum, of Delta, Colorado; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel, and her sister, Pat.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
