Her husband, Sam, invented the Colt Revolver. When he died, she followed through on her promise to "carry out his plans". She maintained stock control of the Colt firearms company. She was very involved in the community of Hartford, Connecticut (where she was a generous philanthropist). She was instrumental in the establishment of Cedar Hill Cemetery - where she is now buried.
