Nancy Ann (Conner) Calmes went quietly into heaven on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. She said that she made reservations for this trip when she was 11. Nancy was born October 18, 1919, in Dallas County to William Thomas Monroe Conner and Dartha Everline (Bickle) Conner. She was the youngest of seven children.

Her dad was blind and never got to physically see her. Nancy, being the baby, was her dad's "eyes" until she was 9 years old at which time her dad passed away. She was devastated by this and never quite got over it.

After graduation from Garland High School in 1936, at the age of 16 she married the love of her life, Elton Calmes on September 12, 1936. They had one son, William Ray. The family moved to the Argyle area in 1944. In 1950, they moved to Denton. She had began a career with Sears in the late 1940's and continued with Sears until 1972. Due to an accident, she was forced to retire from Sears in 1972. After retirement, she made crafts and sold them at local craft shows. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and entertaining.

She and Elton traveled in their RV to most every state in the U.S. and most of the Canadian Provinces. During their travels, they stopped at every garage sale, flea market, and antique store always finding something she needed. Also, she was fortunate enough to travel to Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, and the Holy Land.

After 64 years of marriage and the passing of her husband, she eventually sold most of her antiques, her home, and moved to retirement homes. She was currently living at Cottonwood Nursing Home.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Elton Calmes, December 11, 2000, parents William and Dartha, brother Joe, and sisters Roxie, Hattie, Leatha, Willie, and Nell.
