Died, at 12:12 o'clock this Friday morning, June 23, 1916, at St. John's hospital, following a brief illness, Robert Connolly of Springfield, aged 67 years. Death was due to complications.

Robert Connolly was one of the best known of Springfield's citizens. For many years he had served the people in the capacity of justice of the peace and also carried on a successful real estate and insurance business under the firm name of Robert Connolly & Co.

Decedent was born in Ireland, April 1849 [sic], and there passed the first twenty-two years of his life. April 14, 1871, he came to America, locating first at Albany, NY. Later he resided some time at Troy, NY, and afterward worked at the Penncoyd rolling mills adjoining Philadelphia where for some time he remained in the employ of the A.P. Roberts Iron company. Subsequently, he became an agent for Wanamaker & Brown, and also for C. A. Saylor, of Reading, Pa., traveling for both firms at the same time.

After a service of ten years, Mr. Connolly came to Springfield where he had headquarters. He accepted the position of superintendent to letter carriers in the Springfield postoffice, which position he held for over three years, resigning in 1889 to become a justice of the peace, to which he had been elected, and to which he was re-elected at the expiration of his term of office thereafter, being a justice of the peace at the time of his death.

During his long residence in Springfield, Judge Connolly had always taken an active part in politics, being affiliated with the democratic party. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

In September 1878 he was united in marriage in this city to Miss Mary Britt, and to their union four children were born - Mary A., Anna, Kate and Alexander Connolly.

Surviving are the four children, all of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Thomas McPhillips of Liverpool, England, and one brother, William Connolly of Oklahoma City, Okla.
