Michael J. Connolly, 88, of Springfield died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004 at St. John's Hospice. Michael was born October 9, 1915 in Springfield, the son of Peter and Nellie O'Brien Connolly. He married Eileen M. Dacy, October 25, 1941 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Mr. Connolly was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII where he received a Victory Medal, 1 overseas Service Bar and Army of Occupation Medal. He was employed by Sangamo Electric for 28 years as a Security Guard and later for City, Water, Light and Power (CWLP) for 8 years. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post # 32 and Knights of Columbus Council #4175. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher, assisted with funeral masses and served as a past President for the Holy Name Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jeanette Truax, Mary Applett and Josephine Pavalick and two brothers: James and Tim Connolly.

He is survived by his wife: Eileen M. Connolly of Springfield; one son: Dan (wife, Beverly) Connolly of Springfield; two daughters: Michelle (husband, Ken) Campbell of Riverton, Mary Long of Albany, GA; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga celebrant. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
