Obituary – Mrs. Catherine Connolly
The Waverly Journal -- Friday, September 7, 1951

Mrs. Catherine Cecilia Connolly aged 86, died last Friday night at Our Savior's Hospital, Jacksonville, where she had been a patient for four days. Previous to entering the hospital, she had been at the Tosh Nursing home in Waverly.

Mrs. Connolly was born in Winchester, October 4, 1864, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Shay. She was married to Francis Connolly in 1888, and he died April 10, 1925. To this union were born 12 children, nine of whom survive, namely: Mrs. Robert Covey, of Murrayville; Mrs. Bert Spencer, of Sedalia, Mo.; Mrs. Elizabeth Russell, of St. Augustine, Fla.; George and Oliver Connolly, of Waverly; Joseph Connolly, of Bath; Ted Connolly, East Peoria; William Connolly, of Astoria; and Simon Connolly, of Peoria. She also leaves a brother, John Shay and a sister, Mrs. Mary Sullivan, of Jacksonville; 24 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at St. Sebastian's Church in this city Monday, at 9:30 a.m., with Fr. Michael Kearns officiating.

The pall bearers were Jessie Covey, Lyle Connolly, Allen Connolly, Donald Connolly, Gerald Connolly, and William Connolly, Jr.

Burial was in Bartholomew Cemetery, Murrayville.
