The family moved several times over the years. They lived in Dunklin, Ripley and Bulter counties in Missouri before moving to Madison County, Illinois. The Ashbys eventually moved to Ashmore, Coles County, Illinois.
Clola was a homemaker, and James worked as a farmer early in life. He later was employed by the railroad as a section foreman.
At the time of her death, Clola was 53 years, 5 months and 9 days old. She was buried on 28 Aug 1935.
She was survived by her husband, James, who passed away in 1937 at the age of 57.
Known children: 1 son, 6 daughters.
