TORRINGTON – Mrs. Evelyn R Cooke, 88, of 356 Torringford West, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Gladeview Health Care, Old Saybrook. She was the widow of Thomas A. Cooke.
Evelyn was born in Torrington on Oct. 26, 1919, the daughter of the late Robert R. and Jennie (Colligan) Richard. She and her late husband were owners of the Cooke family business, Central Seafood Torrington, and she also was a former employee of The Torrington Co. She was a member of St Francis Church, Torrington, and Sullivan Senior Center, and also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Jo Pluta, wife of Peter Pluta of Pawtucket, R.I., a son Richard, husband of Mrs. Katheryn Cooke of Deep River, and grandchildren Thomas Pluta and Kathleen Cooke. She is also survived by two sisters, Roberta R. Novey of Old Saybrook and Bernice L. Morse of Old Saybrook.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas A. Cooke, a daughter, Jane M. Cooke, sisters Barbara A. Ocain and Jane E. Scoville, and brothers Norman and Hudson Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Church, Torrington, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 19. Interment will follow at New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m., at Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Ave., Torrington. www.phalenfuneral.com.
