Chico Daily Enterprise, Thursday evening, December 19, 1918: "Pioneer Crosses The Great Divide. Andrew Jackson Coon was born December 14, 1846 at Charleston, Illinois; crossed the plains by team and settled at Dayton in 1866, residing there until about four years ago when he moved to Chico. He passed away at his home in Chico Vecino about 6:30 this morning. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Maggie Coon; one son, Charles E. Coon and four daughters, Mrs. J.F. Snider, Mrs. L.M. Compton, Mrs. Paul Linn and Mrs. Floyd Knudson, all residents of Chico. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian church, Rev. Galen L. Rose officiating. Interment will be at Chico cemetery."

Chico Daily Enterprise, Friday evening, December 20, 1918: "Funeral Notices. Coon -- The funeral services of the late Andrew J. Coon were held this afternoon from the Christian church, at 2 p.m. Rev. Galen Lee Rose, officiating. Interment was made in Chico cemetery."

Coon Descendants, by Frances Davis McTeer, 1979, (pg. 219): "Andrew Jackson Coon, (son of Christian Coon), born in Coles Co., Illinois, 14 Dec 1846, died in Chico, California, 18 Dec 1918, buried Dayton Cemetery, Butte Co., California; married his distant cousin Margaret Jane Gray, born in Coles Co. in 1855."

Note: Chico Cemetery District Records do not show an interment for Andrew Jackson Coon. As there is a marker for him at Dayton cemetery, and given the family's location, we feel reasonably certain that interment took place here, Ed.
