Great Falls Tribune (MT), 23 June 1941:

Body Take From Lake is Identified Sunday

Whitefish, June 22--The body found in Spencer lake Saturday was identified today as Frank Cooney, 72, a former telegraph operator in Wisconsin. Jack Hart, a friend, said he last saw Cooney two weeks ago when the latter left the Tobie ranch to go to Whitefish. A partly consumed bottle of liquor in Cooney's knapsack caused officers to believe he had wandered off the highway while intoxicated.

Body Identified As That of Old Valley Resident. Frank Cooney, 72, Missing Since June 8, Passes Near Whitefish

Kalispell, June 22--Coroner Harry Campbell said today that the body found near Whitefish Saturday has been identified as that of Frank Cooney, 72, resident of Flathead county for 35 years. Cause of death is believed by the coroner to have been acute alcoholism.
Investigation disclosed the Cooney had been sent to Whitefish by neighbors in the Twin Bridge district on June 8. He stopped to inquire the way at the Fisher ranch and was not seen later.
Cooney was in the habit of staying most anywhere at Whitefish or Kalispell with friends or in the hills, so report of his absence was not made until Saturday, a short time before the body was found. He was a single man and has no known relatives.
Burial was held today in Demersville cemetery as soon as identification was complete.
