"The death of Van Ness P. Cooper took place on Saturday, November 27th, at his home in Cooperstown. Mr. Cooper suffered a paralytic stroke on Tuesday and gradually failed until the end came. He was born March 3, 1847, at Pultneyville, Wayne county, and was the elder son of the late well-known Captain Peter P. Cooper, who in 1850 established a fine line of pleasure boats on Otsego Lake. After the death of Captain Cooper, in 1890, his two sons, Van Ness and Frank, conducted the business for several years. On June 1, 1869, Mr. Cooper married Miss Roxaline Waffle of Sprout Brook, Montgomery county, who with his brother, Frank, of Ilion, survives him. The funeral was held Monday at 10 a. m. The Rev.
