Maxine Atkinson, age 76, of rural Roodhouse, died early Monday morning, May 13, 2002 at her residence. She was born June 14, 1925 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Fred and Sadie Mellor Copley. She married Ray Atkinson on Oct. 3, 1942 in Bowling Green, Missouri and he survives.

She is also survived by four sons, Gordon (wife, June) Atkinson of Marshfield, Missouri; James Atkinson of Eldred; John Atkinson of White Hall and Tom (wife, Sue) Atkinson of Ames, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter; one sister, Marjorie Kesinger of Roodhouse and one brother, Ross Copley of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Eva VanCleve, Blanche Dawson, Freida Walker and Fern Kesinger and three brothers, Gene, Carl and James Copley.

Mrs. Atkinson worked for eight years at the Roodhouse Elementary School as a cook. She was a member of the White Hall First Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School class.

Services were entrusted to Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of White Hall, Illinois.
