Portlander dies at 90

A memorial service for Alta Corbett, who died Thursday in a Portland nursing home, will be Friday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. in Riverview Chapel.

Mrs. Corbett, 90, was born June 10, 1886, in Portland and resided here all her life. She was the widow of Elliott R. Corbett who died in 1963.

Mrs. Corbett, a graduate of Smith College in Massachusetts, was a trustee of the Unitarian Church and had been an original board member of the local Urban League.

She was president of the Portland League of Women Voters from 1938 to 1940 and served as director of the national league from 1940 to 1942. She was a former trustee of Catlin School and of Smith College, and had served as a member of the Riverdale school board.

Survivors include five daughters, Lady Macadam, London, England; Gretchan Tommald, Lesley Forster and Lucy Marlitt, all of Portland; and Alta Thomas, Sequim, Wash.; 16 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
