Memorial services for Borgny Corbett of McMinnville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, at the United Methodist Church in Rainier. The Rev. Patsy Sturdevant will officiate.

Mrs. Corbett died at the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. She was 90.

Born in Bjourn, Norway, on Dec. 11, 1916, she was the daughter of Berger and Petra (Hegli) Sather. The family immigrated to the United States, settling on the Columbia River at Rainier in 1922.

She graduated from school in 1933. She married Ross Corbett in 1934. The couple moved to the Parkrose area of Portland in 1995 and to Alterra Villas in McMinnville in 2005.

During World War II, she worked as a substitute elementary school teacher. She did seasonal work at a dime store as well as spending more than 13 years at Longview Fibre.

She served as a city councilor, mayor and police commissioner in Rainier. Also active in state government, she served as a volunteer aide for state Sen. Frank Shields.

After she retired, Mrs. Corbett traveled across the country with her husband in their Volkswagen camper. They toured 49 states by camper, including Alaska, then flew to Hawaii to complete their tour.

She was active in the Methodist Church wherever she lived. She taught Sunday school and Bible study classes.

Locally she was involved in the Yes! Logos! Program at McMinnville Cooperative Ministries and a camping program at McMinnville United Methodist Church. She helped with a soccer camp, needlework camp and third-graders camp, and headed fundraising programs to provide camp opportunities for needy children.

"She was always great at needlework," the family said.

Mrs. Corbett is survived by a daughter, Margaret Golden of McMinnville; a brother, Bud Sather of Newberg; a sister, Pauline Brown of Portland; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, James and Ross Jr.; a brother, Krist Sather; and a grandson, Jeremiah "Gus" Green.
