Mrs. Fidelia Barnhart a resident of this city for the past ten years, died at the home of her son, J. H. Barnhart, Wednesday, October 8th, 1890. Her last illness was caused by a slight cold, but the infirmities of age made her an easy subject for disease, and she passed away, being sick only a week. Mrs. Barnhart was born in Linsberry, Harvard county, Connecticut, January 10, 1805. She was married to Mr. J. D. Barnhart February 5, 1828, who still survives her. Their married life has been an unusually long and pleasant one. Very few were the days they were separated during their many years of wedded life, and this causes him to feel his loss so severely. To Mr. and Mrs. Barnhart were born two children, a son and daughter, who with several grandchildren are living to mourn their loss. The sympathy of the friends and community are extended to the bereaved family and especially to Grandfather Barnhart. The prospect for heaven was bright for the departed one. With Paul, she said it was better to depart and be with Jesus, knowing that her work on earth was finished. The funeral was held at the Free Baptist church Thursday at 2 p.m. Sermon by writer from II Cor. 5.5. – A. R. Toothacre (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, October 17, 1890)
