Mrs. Stella Ashford, 87, widow of Lawrence Mills Ashford of Rt.#1, Powderly, died Tuesday at 12:35 p.m. in McCuistion Hospital here after being in ill health sometimes.
Daughter of Lawrence Brock Coward and the former Arra Kemp, Mrs. Ashford was born in the Slate Shoals community, 25 Dec 1882.
She married 21 Jan 1900 at Powderly, her husband's death occurring in 1949.
Friends will be received at Leverett & Steele Funeral Home in Paris, Wednesday between 7:30-9:00 p.m.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Red Hill Church at Powderly and a burial made in the Red Hill Cemetery.
She was also preceded in death by 3 sons, Walter L. Ashford in 1910, Harding Phillip Ashford in 1959, and Luther James Ashford in 1968; 2 daughters, Ara Ashford in 1917 and Mattie E. Ashford McCrum in 1961.
She leaves a son, Thomas David 'Tom' Ashford of Powderly; 13 other descendants; a brother, Johel Brock Coward of Powderly; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Armstrong of Paris and Mrs. Emma Ashford of Caddo, OK.
