JOSEPH H. CRANE, the son of Judge Joseph Halsey Crane, was born October 17, 1825. He served as a soldier in the Civil War serving under the command of General Robert C. Schenck. During the close of the war, he was commissioned captain with the brevet of colonel in the regular army, and was made major in Jackson, Mississippi in 1868. While acting in this capacity, he was killed in the street by a noted ex-confederate officer, Colonel Yerger on June 8, 1869 at the age of 43. He is located in Section 34 Lot 347.

JOSEPH GRAHAM. CRANE, the son of Judge Joseph Halsey Crane, was born October 17, 1825. He served as a soldier in the Civil War serving under the command of General Robert C. Schenck. During the close of the war, he was commissioned captain with the brevet of colonel in the regular army, and made Major in the Army of the Potomac for his participation in the Second Battle of Bull Run. He became acting mayor of Jackson, Mississippi by military appointment during the Reconstruction era in the south. While acting in this capacity, he was murdered by Colonel Edward M. Yerger (stabbed to death) over a tax argument on June 8, 1869 at the age of 43. The Jackson (Miss.) Clarion published a detailed account of the tragic affair in that city. He is located in Section 34 Lot 347.
