Enlisted on April 10, 1861, as a lieutenant in Co. K. 2nd New Jersey Infantry; discharged February 11, 1862. Reassigned July 26, 1863, as a lieutenant in Co. D, 3rd US Colored Troops Infantry, mustered out October 31, 1865, at Hilton Head, South Carolina.
