In 1978, she graduated from Freeport High School, Freeport, NY. On April 30, 2001, she received her Associate Degree in Public Service Legal Assistant from Trident Technical College. She then enrolled in Southern Illinois University to further her education. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Workforce Education and Development on May 8, 2004.
As a young woman, Yvonne realized that law enforcement was her calling and thus her career began. She was a highly motivated woman who excelled in her profession. Yvonne possessed over 20 years of Institutional Training & Teaching experience.
Yvonne’s law enforcement career began with the family business, CC Security, where she worked side by side with her father and eldest brother, Jerome. In 1981, she began a career with New York State Department of Corrections. During her tenure, she excelled by accepting challenging assignments from Officer to Administrator to Regional & Logistics Coordinator.
In 1993, she moved to South Carolina with her family and accepted an entry level position with the Charleston County Detention Center (CCDC). During her years at CCDC, she became the first African-American female captain. She retired from CCDC as Captain & Command Officer of the Juvenile Detention Center in 2004.
From 2004 to 2011, she served at the Jail Administrator for the Long Beach Police Department in Long Beach, CA. In 2011, she returned to South Carolina. In May 2014, she started Inspire Consulting LLC. As President and Principal Consultant, she visited adult prisons and jails throughout the United States to conduct audits for Secure Facility Operations and Critical Facility Vulnerability Assessments. In July 2014, she began working as a Quality Assurance Analyst at MAXIMUS in North Charleston, SC.
Yvonne took great pride in her field. Her accomplishments were great and are as follows: The National Association of Professional Women, Woman of the Year 2013; Behavior Modification Program Officer - Substance Abuse; Program Assistant - Division Counselor at Harlem Valley Maximum Security Facility; Field Training Officer; Training Corporal; Training and Administrative Lieutenant; Basic Instructor; Defensive Tactics Instructor; Interpersonal Communications Instructor Trainer; CPR/SFA Instructor Trainer; Training Coordinator for New York Shock Training Program; Commander of three facilities; Interpersonal Communications; and Defensive Tactics Instructor.
Yvonne’s professional affiliations include: Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiator Team; Team Leader for Department’s Honor Guard; American Jail Association; National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE); National Association of Female Executives; National Juvenile Detention Association; Past Chairman of Trident Technical College Criminal Justice Advisory Board; President of a nonprofit organization, A Brave New World, Inc.
Yvonne loved instructing, traveling, singing, party planning, playing volleyball and spending time with family and friends.
Yvonne has touched the lives of so many spanning from the East to the West coasts. She will be greatly missed and remembered.
