Daniel Lee Cullinan passed on to a better life Dec. 19, 2013. He lived a life of service, not only to his country - five years in the Army Air Corps as a tail gunner in a B-29 in 35 missions over Burma, China, India and Japan - he also served as a New York City police officer and a U.S. Postal Service worker. He also received many commendations and medals from the New York City Police Department.
He was born Oct. 16, 1917, to John Walter and Cecilia Cullinan in Brooklyn, N.Y., the oldest of three boys. His brothers, John W. Jr. and Frances Edward, have all passed on.
He also served as an elder in the Church of Christ in Long Island, N.Y., and Tyler.
He married Winifred Elaine Taylor, March 16, 1944, close to 70 years ago in Wichita, Kan. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mary Moore, of Flint, and Joan Steele, of Houston, seven granddaughters; one grandson; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 Texas Highway 64 West, Tyler. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2013, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.
