She was the daughter of John Proctor Cumming of Scotland and Rachel Jones.
She married first to Dr. W. J. Bradley. While they were living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he died of typhoid (which John McClain's first wife died from) After several years as a widow, she met John McClain in Cedar Rapids and they were married. Rachel was buried by her first husband.

Well-Known S.L. Woman Succumbs

Mrs. Rachel Cumming McClain, 61, widow of John Collins McClain, prominent Salt Lake resident, died suddenly Tuesday at 5:40 p.m. at her home, 45 Seventh East street, of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Mrs. McClain was born in Gardner, Ill., and came to Salt Lake from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 15 years ago. She was a member of Lynns chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Ladies' Literary club.
Mrs. McClain is survived by a son, Paul B. Bradley of Salt Lake; a sister, Mrs. Enos O. Bates, and two brothers, John and James Cumming of Illinois.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed Tuesday night.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal church. The Rt. Rev. Arthur W. Moulton, bishop of the Utah diocese of the Episcopal church, will officiated.
The body will be taken to her former home in Buchanan, Mich. for burial.
