Son of Emily Hornblower and Alexander McWhorter Cumming Sr. (23 Jul 1802 Newark, NJ + 16 Jul 1879 Princeton, NJ). On 05 Jun 1870, entered the Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, NJ by submitting a certificate (register entry #2279) from another congregation, and on 28 Oct 1870, married Harriet Burnet Woodruff, at same church. (Harriet's church register entry is #2183) Per Census of 1880, was an engineer by trade, married male, and residing within one household with his wife and brother-in-laws Edward C. and John E. Woodruff.
He was son-in-law of Maria and Moses Woodruff, of Elizabeth, NJ. Brother-in-law of the above mentioned, and also of Mary, Hellen/Ellen, George, and Nettie Woodruff.
Alexander's siblings as of 1850, were Mary, Sarah, Richard, Emily, Rosalia, and J.N. Cumming, all of Princeton. Recorded death in church records (as seen in primary sourced image of original handwritten register, not later index which includes errors) his DOD is written as "1887 Jan. 31st." Next record date found, was in Probate Court, when the Administrator was designated for his Intestate Estate, in March of 1887, with the place of death, noted in court records as "Walton, Delaware County, New York."
