"City Official Dies Suddenly"

W. C. Cunningham Was Court Clerk for 20 Years – W. C. Cunningham, for 20 years court clerk of the recorder's court, died late Friday afternoon at his residence, 1622 South Thirteenth Street, after an illness of less than a week. Mr. Cunningham has been a resident of Birmingham for more than 35 years and has served the recorder's court under several administrations. He was formerly a member of the Alabama Legislature from Jefferson County and was prominently identified with fraternal work in Birmingham, having server as tyler of Birmingham Masonic Lodge 757 for many years. Mr. Cunningham's death is attributed to an attack of heart trouble. He was at work for a short time on Monday and again Thursday morning, and although he complained of feeling ill, his death was entirely unexpected. Mr. Cunningham served on the park and recreated board several years ago with Judge Henry J. Martin, under whom he was employed at the time of his death. Funeral services, although not definitely arranged, probably will be held Sunday after the arrival of a sister, Mrs. T.M. Martin, of Mayfield, Kentucky. Lige Loy will be in charge. Other surviving relatives are his widow; one son, W. C. Cunningham Jr; two daughters, Mrs. R.T. Harris and Mrs. Wallace Gammon, both of Birmingham.
