Deceased Name: LANCASTER, MARGUERITE JULIA CUNNINGHAM "TIG"
LANCASTER, MARGUERITE JULIA CUNNINGHAM "TIG", was 93 years old when she went home to be with God. She was born in Rutledge Springs, Alabama to Lillie DeBartelaben Butler Cunningham and Fred Charles Cunningham on July 19, 1910. After her father died of pneumonia, her mother moved to Birmingham and lived with her four children: William Eugene, Mamie Eugenia, Marguerite Julia and Laura Mae.

Marguerite attended Martin School and Phillips High School where she developed a lifelong love for poetry and writing. At the age of 20, she married John William Lancaster of Tuscaloosa. They resided in the Druid Hills section of Birmingham and joined Calvary Baptist Church where she worked as a volunteer in the Nursery Department for 25 years. She gave birth to three children: a son, John Richard Lancaster, now of Conroe, Texas; and two daughters, Delores Jean Lancaster Sternenberg, now of Brentwood, Tennessee; and Marguerite Anne Lancaster Clark, now of Birmingham. At the age of 45, she embarked on one of her greatest endeavors. She learned how to drive, went to school and began a career as a dietician at Woodlawn High School and later, at Hillcrest Hospital.

She moved to the Huffman area of Birmingham after her husband's death in 1964 and joined Huffman Baptist Church where she served on the Food Committee for Wednesday night suppers and became an active member of her community. All through the years, she was a reliable friend to many who were in need of a ride to the store or church or just someone to talk with about life's many challenges. Her network of friends and neighbors was far reaching and she was loyal to them all. As she embarked on the later years of her life, she endured the many physical and emotional challenges associated with aging, and moved to Homewood to be closer to her daughter Anne. True to her strong character, she continued to persevere, and joined Dawson Memorial Baptist where she was a valued member of the Harmony Sunday School Class. She attended Sunday school and church faithfully every week until the last six months of her life when her health prevented it. The last four years of her life were spent at Mount Royal Towers, in

assisted living, where she welcomed those who visited with a smile and offer of candy or ice cream. The last day of her life she talked of heaven, smiled at a friend and kissed a great-grandchild.

Marguerite leaves behind a very grateful group of extended family and friends who loved her very much including her Grandchildren: Leslie Lancaster, Allison Simmons, Conroe, Texas; Chip Sternenberg, Toni Sternenberg-White, Nashville, Tennessee; Wendy Price-Murch, Jennifer Price-Dominick, David Garrison, Birmingham, Alabama. Great-Grandchildren: Josh David, Lance Hall, Julia Grace Garrison, Hunter Sternenberg, Hope Sternenberg, Jackson Dominick, Kellyn Margaret Murch. Great-Great Grandchild, Austin David as well as one niece Sandra Bragg and one nephew, Emmett Fike . The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the many employees of Mt. Royal who cared for her and most especially to Pat Harris, Angela Brown and Georgia Daniels.

The Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m., August 26, 2003 at Ridout¹s Valley Chapel in Homewood. The family will receive friends from 5:30pm to 7:00pm on Monday, August 25 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. PSALM 91:2.
