Dr. John Vosler, Preble County Coroner who investigated the accident, determined he died from the injuries and suffocation due to the car falling on him as he was attempting to install a lowering kit. James was working at Armco Steel Company, Middletown and had planned to enter Miami University, Oxford, this fall.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Cunningham and sister, Mrs. Felicia McClain, Gratis. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Gratis Methodist Church with Rev. Ervin Eikenberry officiating, burial at Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. The youth's Gratis Trojans teammates were pallbearers.
