Edna Brown, 93, passed away Dec. 16, 2011 in Bakersfield, Calif.
She was born in Hartwell, Ga. on Oct. 26, 1918 to Charlie and Sular Cunningham and was the sixth child of 14 born to this marriage.
Edna moved to Blythe in 1921 with her parents at the age of 3 and was educated in the Palo Verde Valley School system.
She married Earl Miller (deceased) and from that union they bore two children, Earl Paul and Fred Leon Miller.
She joined the Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Major King.
Some years later she married Booker Brown (deceased) and from that union six children were born.
In 1965 Edna moved to 401 S. Owens St. in Bakersfield. She was then employed as a domestic employee, and later as an Expanded Nutrition Education Program Assistant. Her hobbies were gardening especially roses, which she loved, and sewing for her children.
Edna was dearly loved by her family, close friends and neighbors, leaving an empty void that can never be filled. "We will deeply miss you."
Edna is survived by two sisters, Ophelia Roberson and Willie (Peg) Cunningham, both residing in Bakersfield; along with three sons, unmarried, Fred Leon, Willie, and Kenneth Brown; two sons and their spouses, Leo and Loretta Brown, and Leslie and Jerri Brown; and two daughters and their spouses, Emma Jo and John Breazell and Katie Ruth and Willie Clopton; 28 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren, 56 great-great grandchildren; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Edna will be from 12-4 p.m. on Dec. 22 with one hour meditation from 4-5 p.m. at Rucker's Mortuary, 301 Bakers St., Bakersfield.
Graveside services will on Dec. 23 at Union Cemetery, 730 Potomac Ave., Bakersfield, at 12 noon.
