A resident of Gray, she died peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was 74. A 1959 graduate of Terrebonne High School, and a 1962 graduate of the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans, La., she dedicated herself and her life to her family.

Preceded in death by her father Dock Morris Cutrer; mother Inez Harrell Cutrer; sisters Wilma Terrell and husband Cecil Terrell, and Peggy Bates; and brother in law Charles Martin.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Emory A. Belton; children Emory A. Belton, Jr., and Brenda N. Belton; sisters Joyce Martin, and Francis McKemie and husband Bobby McKemie, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., until service at 11 a.m. at Falgout Funeral Home, 211 Westside Blvd., Houma, La. 70364. Private family internment at Osyka Cemetery, Osyka, Mississippi.



She was the daughter of James Calvin Bates and Inez Elizabeth Harrel. She was a twin to Joyce "Johnnie" Bates Martin who is buried in this cemetery.

The name on the tombstone is wrong. Her mother and father divorced when she was young. She and her twin, Joyce "Johnnie" was raised by their mother and stepfather, Dock Moris Cutrer.
