Jean M. "Grandma Jean” Dafoe 78 of Cortland passed away February 25, 2014.

Jean was born October 31, 1935 in Malone, NY the daughter of the late Wallace and Winifred Russell Patnode.

Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She loved to dance sing + play cards, but her real enjoyment came from playing bingo with her daughters. Jean was a wonderful cook and a bread maker. She made homemade bread for the Virgil church bake sale.

She was a communicant of St Mary's church was a member of the Altar society. Jean not only raised her own seven children but raised her five grandchildren.

Surviving Jean are her children Karen, George (Shelly), Brenda, Diana, Debbie Dafoe and Ellen (James) Krueger, her grandchildren Deser’a (Josh) Ensign, Cody (Amber) Stage. Garrett (Amber) Stage, Logan and Gavin Stage. Jean loved being around her granddaughter Emily Krueger, Jean also enjoyed the company of her grandchildren George Robert Dafoe, Tyler Lanning, James Krueger, and Spencer Dafoe, great grandchildren Abigal , Audrey, Addison and Gunner Ensign as well as Adrianna Stage.

Jean’s life was her children and all the grand +great grandchildren she was loved by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed another star shines bright tonight in heaven.

Jean is also survived by her Brother Kenneth Bean of Rome, NY, her sister Yvonne Cummings of Rome, NY several nieces and nephews, a special niece Brittney Bean, and several special nieces and nephew in Rome, NY

In addition to her parents Jean was predeceased by her daughter Kathy Dafoe, and several brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Saturday at St. Mary's Church with the Reverend Joseph Presiding. Friends are invited to call from 5-7 pm Friday evening at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jean's name may be directed to the Leukemia Society of CNY 401 North Salina St. Syracuse, NY 13203.
