DAFOE _ Mary Ann, (nee Flavin), passed away peacefully April 23, 2005 at Totem Lodge in Sechelt, B.C. with family at her side. Mary Ann was born on July 18, 1921 in Edmonton, Alberta. Her life, often given to service of family and community, was long and productive. Mary Ann had an early career in radio and with the Credit Union. She worked as a volunteer for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and the Alzheimer Association, and helped initiate the Deep Cove, North Vancouver Library and later Madeira Park Library in Pender Harbour. Mary enjoyed all things written and collected books, stamps and coins as well as family ancestry information for which we are all grateful. Mary is predeceased in 1990 by her husband Robert Morden Dafoe, parents Edward John Flavin born in Forest Ontario and Harriett Helen, nee Connington, born in Ireland, and her sister Patricia Shaw, late of Edmonton, Alta. Mary Ann is survived by son John (Renate), daughter Janet Winkler (Thomas), grandchildren Amelia, Jedediah, Allea, Julia and Ryan, and great grandchildren Caitlyn and Vivianne. Our family is grateful to Totem Lodge staff, management and volunteers who have cared for Mary through her disability for the past year. We are equally grateful to Shorncliffe staff and management who previously cared for Mary since late in Winter 2001. Over these past 3 years she was known for her beatific smile. A memorial to celebrate the life of Mary Ann Dafoe will be announced at a later time. Instead of flowers, please support a charity of your choice.
