Grace Daniel Applegate was born in Marengo, Indiana. When she was 8 years old, her family moved to Corydon, where she grew up, married and raised a family. She was the daughter of Dr. William Daniel and Fredrica Martin Daniel, who were originally from Milltown. On Oct. 12, 1898, Grace married George William Applegate II, son of George W. (Ned) Applegate and Anna VanZandt Applegate. They raised two fine sons, George William Applegate III, an Indianapolis architect, and Frederick Martin Applegate, M.D. Grace was a talented musician and a teacher of voice and piano. She had a beautiful singing voice and was much in demand to perform at public and private functions. She was a member of the Corydon Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir for many years. After the death of her husband in 1950, Grace moved to Monahans, Texas, where her younger son, Ted, and his family lived. She died unexpectedly at the age of 79 from a heart ailment. Grace was a warm and gracious lady and much loved by her family and friends. She had a close relationship with her granddaughters and greatly influenced their lives.
