Ezra Hubbell Darling





Ezra Hubbell Darling passed away at the M.I.B. Hospital about 11 o'clock Monday evening, February 1, 1928 where he had been a patient for three weeks. Monday forenoon he underwent an operation from which he never rallied. An autopsy revealed a badly diseased condition which accounted for his poor health for several years and great suffering which he bore manfully..


Mr. Darling was born in the town of Westford, October 18, 1856. He was a son of George and Hannah (Hubbell) Darling. His father was a soldier in the Civil War. He was left fatherless at an early age. When he was two years of age he came with his parents to Hubbell Hollow on to his grandfather's (Homer Hubbell) farm where he always resided.


October 24, 1877 he was united in marriage with Miss Emogene Webb. They celebrated their golden wedding in October by entertaining sixty of Darling had many times expressed a wish to live to celebrate his fiftieth wedding anniversary. IN young manhood he united with the Presbyterian church at Middlefield Center of which he was an elder and a trustee when he died.


He is survived by his wife and son, Charles G. Darling of Cobleskill and eight grandchildren and other more distant relatives. A son, Elmer J., died August 12, 1894, at the age of six months, a daughter, Mrs. George R. Van Deusen died December 6, 1906, a son Earl J., died March 13, 1917. He was a kind, loving husband and father and will be deeply mourned by them.


He will be missed not only in the church but in the neighborhood and at social gatherings which he always enjoyed. The funeral was held at his late home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and was conducted by the Rev. E.C. Petrie of Cooperstown with interment in the family plot at Middlefield Center.
