SCHENEVUS _ Nancy L. Darling died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, surrounded by her family, at her home in Schenevus.

Nancy was born in Cooperstown on March 29, 1951, the daughter of the late Henry C. and Gertrude R. (Gage) Thayer. Nancy attended and graduated from Cooperstown Central School.

In 1970, she married Thomas Darling. In addition to being a loving mother and raising their two children, she worked at The Meadows for 20 years as a nurse's aide. She also was employed as a waitress at The Otesaga for several years. In 2006, she began work at Bassett Healthcare as a transport aide on the fifth floor.

Nancy was always willing to lend a hand to any one in need. She loved to garden, play bingo at Turning Stone and spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Thomas Darling of Middlefield. Nancy is also survived by her daughter, Angela Darling Christman (Jeff) of Davenport, as well as by their children, Brandi Darling and Jeffrey and Eric Christman.

Nancy was predeceased by her son, Eric Darling in 2001.

Other survivors include Eric's daughter, Morgan Darling of Florida; Nancy's brother, Thomas Thayer (Gail) of Milford and their three children, Kevin Barrows (Jennifer) of Schenevus, Tammy Thayer of Vermont and Wade Thayer of Milford; as well as by Nancy's sister, Kathryn Gohde (Kim) of Schenevus, and their four children, Michael Thayer of Virginia, Todd Gohde of Cherry Valley, Gregory Gohde of Westford and Charles Gohde of Florida.

The family would like to thank the many health care centers and people who cared for Nancy during her battle with cancer. Included are Syracuse University Hospital, Bassett Healthcare and the fifth floor SCU doctors and nurses who provided such loving care. The family would also like to thank Dr. Bravin and Catskill Area Hospice for their special care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy's memory to Kathy Gohde, 147 Gatley Road, Schenevus, NY 12155 for application to those needs Nancy left unfinished.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown.

Funeral services will at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, followed by committal services in the Middlefield Cemetery in Middlefield.

Arrangements are under the supervision of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
