Margaret Davey Barbee, 96, of Clearwater, Fla., and formerly of Salem died January 18, 2010, in Largo, Fla. She graduated from Duke University, School of Nursing, Class of 1935, and was an avid fan of the ACC and the Duke Blue Devils throughout her life. As a registered nurse, she worked many years at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, and after moving to Florida at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater from which she retired in 1983. Preceding her in death were her husband John Tyler Barbee, her parents, brothers Charles Schell Davey and Earl Wayne Tate, and sisters Florence Davey Galbraith, Ruby Davey Williamson, Lelia Davey Trent and Eloise Hurt Davey. Survivors include a son, James Davey Barbee and his wife Ann, of Largo, Fla.; daughter Patricia Barbee Murphy and her husband Allan of Lake Mary, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jamie and Tyler Barbee, Brent and Kevin Murphy; and nieces Carolyn Galbraith Nolan and her husband Donald of Roanoke, Joyce Galbraith Colony of Charlottesville, and Elizabeth Galbraith DeCarolis and her husband Laurence of Durham, N.C. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
