Bailey Irene Mae 'Davey' 85, died in Cañon City March 29, 2007. She was born on May 8, 1921, in Saguache to Arthur Cleveland and Bessie Lillian Davey. She was born to a ranching family, was third generation in the Saguache area and attended school in Saguache. After high school, she attended Western State College in Gunnison and taught in a one-room schoolhouse on Cochetopa Pass. On May 8, 1943, she married Joseph Quinn Bailey in Saguache. The family moved to Cañon City to open a convenience store in 1961. She returned to school in Pueblo to finish her teaching degree in 1968, and taught for several years in Wiggins and Brush, before returning to Cañon City. She was very active in the TOPS organization in Cañon City, and prepared income taxes for numerous families annually. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her family and friends, and taking rides in the mountains. She was very accomplished in oil painting and crocheting.
She is survived by four sons, . . six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one brother, . . . several nieces, nephews and great- nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin sons, brother, John, and sister-in-law, Helen.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Skyline Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 515 Fairview in Cañon City. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m., at Hillside Cemetery in Saguache.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Skyline Ridge Nursing Center, 515 Fairview, Cañon City, CO 81212 or the Sangre de Cristo Hospice, P. O. Box 1796, Cañon City, CO 81212. Arrangements were handled through Holt Family Funeral Home.
