Ida May Davis was born on May 24, 1904 to Thomas J. and Hattie (Davis) Davis. (Yes, you read that right!) The third of four children, Ida was the lone girl in the middle of three boys, Clyde, John Stanley, and Clarence. Ida grew up in Chicago, and sometime around 1924 or 1925 she met and married Ernest Hugh Bleeck, a native of Seattle, Washington. Together, they had one daughter, Audry Mae, on March 29, 1926. When Audry was 15 months old, Ida contracted TB and went to live in a sanitarium. She sent her daughter to live at the Salem Children's Home in Flanagan, IL. She passed away on April 2, 1928, less than a week after Audry turned 2. She was survived by her husband, daughter, parents, brothers and many nieces and nephews.

Ida was my great-grandmother. Since she died when my grandma was so young, we had never known much of her or Ernest before I began researching my roots in October 2010. Upon the realization that my grandmother had never visited her mother's grave or even knew where she was buried, I was able to find, though this site, that Ida (and her parents!) was buried at Bethania Cemetery. All of my surviving aunts and uncles, one cousin, Grandma and I traveled to Justice, IL to see her grave. It was quite the moment, one that I will not soon forget.

Rest in peace, Grandma!
