Born and raised in the Federalsburg area of Caroline County, Maryland to Alfred and Mary (nee Noble) Davis.

Wife of William E. Carpenter, whom Sallie wed in Delaware in October 1884.

Per the 1900 census, Sallie and William never had any children together.

After William died in 1917, Sallie, from at least 1920 onward, resided with Willard S. Knowles and his wife Ellie for the remainder of her life.

NOTE: Sallie's correct birth year near certainly was 1851, despite her shared tombstone with husband William indicating her year to have been 1847. Sallie was not yet born and living in her parents' household by the time of the 1850 census (enumerated on 9/17/1850), and had an age consistent with the probable 1851 birth year in multiple subsequent censuses she appears in.
