Locating Amelia and James on the 1910 census, I found them living in Sharon, Fayette, Illinois. Both were born in Wisconsin and James was farming at the time. The census stated that it was the first marriage for both and they had been married for 22 years. There were no children at the time and both were in their 40's.
By 1920, they had a son, VICTOR CHADBOURNE, who was listed as 12 yrs old and born in Illinois. They were all living in Orland, California at the time and James was listed as a general farmer. I would assume that Victor probably was adopted.
By 1930 Amelia was widowed and living alone, paying rent of $12.00 a month. She lived on YOLO Street. She was 65 yrs old and it listed her as a janitor for the local library.
By the 1940 Census it stated that she had lived in the same home since 1935 and she now owned her own home on 2nd Street, valued at $1,500.00.
On the California Death Index record for Amelia, it listed her birth as being in IOWA while all other census records stated that she was born in WISCONSIN.
